Here are some highlights of our relationship and how we got together.
October 2020: It's a Match!
Like many modern relationships, the story begins on the dating app Hinge.
To Eleanor's profile's question of "What's your favorite Studio Ghibli movie?", Victor responded with an unusual/good choice: "Pom Poko". That (along with his very cute smile) made her decide to match with him.
Pom Poko (1994) is an animated movie about racoon dogs (tanuki) and their fight to save their home.
October 29, 2020: First Date
A few days before Eleanor's 30th birthday (November 1) they had their first date at Twilight Exit, a divey bar in the Central District in Seattle. It was a cold rainy night, and they had a couple beers on the heated outdoor patio, because of course this was in COVID times.

November 16, 2020: Second Date
A couple weeks later, they had their second date. The idea was to go look for edible mushrooms in Frink Park, a foresty city park by the shore of Lake Washington. It was dumping rain and they found no mushrooms. But it was not a bad time.
December 2020-May 2021: The dark days
Those early COVID times were pretty rough, especially before the vaccines became available. The two agreed to take it slow with limited in-person contact.
In this period, Victor dropped off several loaves of his homemade sourdough bread beautifully inscribed with Eleanor's initials.
They also made a scavanger hunt for each other, hiding things in the neighborhood with cryptic clues.
June 2021: Thaw
After four total vaccine shots were administered, and one graphic novel's artwork was turned in, Eleanor finally made it up to Beacon Hill to meet Victor's backyard quails. The long winter was finally over and her heart was open. They started officially seeing each other.
July 29, 2021: We're official
The official beginning of the Eleanor+Victor relationship has been designated as the afternoon their people met each other for the first time, at a picnic at Jefferson Jumpstart, the evening outdoor concert series in Beacon Hill. A very good day!
November 2021: First trip
First out-of town trip together was to the oceanside town of Westport, WA for a family thanksgiving with Victor's local family. When they weren't digging up razor clams on the pitch-dark beach, many games of Overcooked were played.
July 2022: Victor visits Eleanor's hometown (Vienna, VA) for the first time, proving he can survive Virginia summer humidity.
November 2022: Co-habitation
Eleanor leaves her tiny and cute studio apartment in the Central District to move in with Victor in his cute and appropriately sized 100+ year old house in Beacon Hill. Later, they will have this house painted purple.
November 2023: Eleanor visits Victor's hometown (Poughkeepsie, NY) and meets most of his extended family for Thanksgiving!
May 13, 2024: Engagement
It was the last day of their trip via Amtrak to San Luis Obispo, California. They hiked up a mountain covered in poppies and mist near Baywood, CA and at the top, Victor proposed with a very unique ring.
Of course, she said yes.
September 2025: The Wedding
TBD but we're sure it's going to be a good time. And happily ever after.
